Nutrition and Fitness (GCC)

Gold Coast Collaborative ofr Nutrition and
Fitness (GCC) uses the collective expertise and
influence of its member organizations to
facilitate system or environmental changes
that shape nutrition and physical activity
behaviors. GCC works through nutrition
education initiatives to address health
inequities in the Gold Coast area and to
improve nutrition and physical activity
behaviors, and to increase access to healthy
foods among low-income residents, their
families, and other community members.
Key Objectives
To
educate communities about healthy eating
and physical activity issues,
particularly in
CalFresh-eligible
populations.
To
educate communities, especially
low-income, on how they can advocate for
system and environmental changes leading
to healthier eating and increased
opportunities for physical activity.
To
promote availability of affordable,
quality, local fruits and vegetables in
schools and communities.
Accomplishments
Developed and released a Policy Brief,
A
Health Crisis in Paradise (PDF): Youth and
Chronic Diseases in California’s Gold
Coast, that focused on the epidemic of
childhood overweight and related health
statistics.
Previous
Nutrition Education Initiatives: Healthy
Fundraising and Veggies Make Great
Snacks.
Annually
offer two to four $4,000 mini-grants to
organizations working with low-income
populations to incorporate education on
nutrition and physical activity into
current or new programs.
