Download the GCC Fact Sheet

Gold Coast Collaborative ofr Nutrition and Fitness (GCC) uses the collective expertise and influence of its member organizations to facilitate system or environmental changes that shape nutrition and physical activity behaviors.  GCC works through nutrition education initiatives to address health inequities in the Gold Coast area and to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors, and to increase access to healthy foods among low-income residents, their families, and other community members.

Key Objectives

  • To educate communities about healthy eating and physical activity issues, particularly in CalFresh-eligible populations.

  • To educate communities, especially low-income, on how they can advocate for system and environmental changes leading to healthier eating and increased opportunities for physical activity.

  • To promote availability of affordable, quality, local fruits and vegetables in schools and communities.

Accomplishments

  • Developed and released a Policy Brief, A Health Crisis in Paradise (PDF): Youth and Chronic Diseases in California’s Gold Coast, that focused on the epidemic of childhood overweight and related health statistics.

  • Previous Nutrition Education Initiatives: Healthy Fundraising and Veggies Make Great Snacks.

  • Annually offer two to four $4,000 mini-grants to organizations working with low-income populations to incorporate education on nutrition and physical activity into current or new programs.
