Gold Coast Region :: Trainings & Services

The Network for a Healthy California— Gold Coast Region and the Cold Coast Collaborative provide partners and members with an array of trainings and services, including:

Quarterly Gold Coast Collaborative for Nutrition and Fitness (GCC) Meetings
Each quarter, the members and partners of the Gold Coast Collaborative for Nutrition and Fitness (GCC) gather raining. Check the Calendar of Events for upcoming Regional meetings.

PA Specialist & PA Forums
The Region’s Physical Activity Specialist conducts physical activity trainings for community-based organizations on an ongoing basis.  In addition, each year Gold Coast members and partners, along with many other Gold Coast nutrition and physical activity organizations participate in an all day Physical Activity Forum spearheaded by the Gold Coast Region's Physical Activity Specialist.  Check the Calendar of Events for upcoming Regional meetings.

Skill-based Trainings
Each year, the Gold Coast Region conducts trainings for the Local Incentive Awardees, GCC Members and local partners.  The focus of the trainings is determined by the partners.  Prior trainings have covered media skills and competency, how to build and maintain successful coalitions, and conduct food demos.  Check the Calendar of Events for upcoming Regional trainings.

Fruit, Vegetable and Physical Activity Toolbox for Community Education Trainings
The
Network for a Healthy California— Latino Campaign Toolbox trainings are available free of charge to community educators to teach low-income Latino adults about eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and incorporating physical activity into each and every day.  To schedule a training, contact Mary Arévalo, Latino Campaign Manager, 805.677.5255 or mary.arevalo@ventura.org.  Go to our Calendar of Events to view scheduled trainings.

Power Play! - School & CYO Trainings
The Network for a Healthy California— Children's Power Play! Campaign conducts trainings for Schools and Community Youth Organizations on how to incorporate healthy kid activities into the classroom, after school and youth programs.  These trainings include information on fun-filled activities like the Nutrition Decathlon as well as information on how Children's Power Play! helps schools meet their wellness policy objectives.  To schedule a training, contact Carolina Ugarte, MSW, Children's Power Play! Campaign Manager, at 805.677.5262 or carolina.urgarte@ventura.org.  The following forms are available as MS Word documents for your convenience (right click on form, choose Save Target As, Save to desktop, then open form):

Store Tours
The Retail Program and Children's Power Play! Campaign provide fruit and vegetable store tours which are designed to be fun and interactive activities at a local grocery store that empowers youth and their families to purchase, prepare, and consume more fruits and vegetables.  To schedule a store tour in your community, contact Cristina Wells, Retail Program Manager, 805.677.5235 or cristina.wells@ventura.org. Go to our Calendar of Events to view scheduled tours.

Food Demonstrations
The Latino, Retail and Power Play! Campaigns conduct food demonstrations at grocery stores, and flea and farmers’ markets across the Gold Coast Region.  The food demonstrations provide valuable information about preparing quick and healthy meals and provide consumers with the skills needed to purchase and to prepare healthy food.  Consumers are able to taste recipes, see the ingredients prepared, and encouraged to purchase the recipe contents all in one location.  In addition, participants receive free cookbooks, store tours, and more.  For more info, contact Cristina Wells, Retail Program Manager, 805.677.5235 or cristina.wells@ventura.org.  Go to our Calendar of Events to view scheduled demos.
