Network for a Healthy
California—
Latino Campaign
is a
public health initiative
lead by the
California Department of
Public Health,
administered by the
Public Health Institute,
and funded by
USDA SNAP, known in California as
CalFresh.
Its purpose is to
empower low-income Latino
adults and their families to
consume the recommended
amount of fruits and
vegetables and enjoy
physical activity every day.
The
Latino Campaign also
works with communities
throughout
California
to create environments where
these behaviors are socially
supported and accessible.
The fruit, vegetable, and
physical activity objectives
are designed to reduce the
risk of chronic diseases,
especially cancer, heart
disease, type 2 diabetes,
and obesity. |
Strategy
Empowers low-income Latino adults
and their families to consume the
recommended servings of fruits and
vegetables and engage in at least 30
minutes of physical activity every
day.
Reach Population
Eligible Latinos ages 18-54 and their families.
Channels
Farmers’/flea markets, Latino festivals,
supermarkets and neighborhood grocery stores,
community based organizations, direct health service
providers, regional events and media.
Partnerships The Latino
Campaign works directly with community leader to
help and enhance the health and well-being of the
Latino community.

Community educators can easily teach
low-income adults about eating the
recommended amount of fruits and vegetables
and enjoying physical activity every day.
The Toolbox Website contains lessons with
supporting handouts, resources, and
evaluation tools while the Toolbox Kit
provides all information available from the
Web site as well as two educational videos,
five decks of fruit, vegetable, and physical
activity playing cards, a music CD, poster,
and produce guide.
